MERRY demonstrates its commitment to sustainable development, aiming to achieve carbon neutrality and RE100 goals by 2040.
In 2023, the global political and economic landscape remains unstable, facing the hottest year on record, with the average temperature surpassing 17.01°C for the first time and natural disasters occurring more frequently. In this challenging era, MERRY, as a leading global provider of audio-visual perception products, envisions "Creating a Wonderful Perception Experience for Health and Sustainable Living" and integrates sustainability goals into its core business. The company actively responds to and promotes global sustainability actions, fulfilling its corporate responsibilities and creating a positive sustainable impact.
Responding to the RE100 Global Renewable Energy Initiative, Advancing the Target to 2040
MERRY responds to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal SDG 13 on climate action by officially joining the global renewable energy initiative "RE100" in 2021. After approval from the board in 2023, the target year for achieving this goal has been advanced from 2050 to 2040, committing to 100% renewable electricity usage across all operations.
To gradually increase the proportion of renewable energy used, MERRY continues to enhance energy efficiency management, evaluates the installation of rooftop solar systems, and actively seeks local renewable energy providers to sign power purchase agreements, along with procuring international renewable energy certificates. In 2023, MERRY's operational sites under the RE100 commitment used a total of 6,978 MWh of renewable energy, accounting for 23.11% of total electricity consumption.
Important Blueprint for Net Zero Carbon Emissions, Declaring Carbon Neutrality by 2040
Furthermore, to demonstrate its commitment to sustainable development, MERRY has announced the advancement of Taiwan's "2050 Net Zero Emissions" goal to "2040 Carbon Neutrality" as a key blueprint for the Group's environmental sustainability actions. The company is dedicated to reducing energy carbon emissions and increasing renewable energy usage, actively integrating environmental sustainability concepts into product design, production operations, logistics, and transportation, thereby improving the efficiency of environmental resource usage. MERRY also promotes carbon reduction goals among suppliers by establishing a carbon reduction scoring mechanism and a digital management system.
Since 2022, MERRY has implemented an internal carbon pricing system, conducting carbon risk assessments and management for energy-related equipment and investments. In 2023, MERRY further introduced a greenhouse gas inventory system to digitally manage carbon emission activity data and certification documents. According to statistics, greenhouse gas emissions in Scope 1 & 2 decreased by 14.09% compared to the previous year.
