MERRY has established Taiwan's first micro-hearing impairment library, benefiting 5,400 students.
The audio technology giant MERRY Industrial has been promoting micro-hearing impairment initiatives in recent years, focusing on hearing protection issues. In 2023, the company established Taiwan's first micro-hearing impairment library, named "Hearing Happiness," which is expected to benefit approximately 5,400 students annually. The unveiling ceremony took place on December 2 at Xitun Elementary School, attended by MERRY's Chairman Liao Lu-Li, President Huang Chao-Feng, and Principal Peng Wei-Feng.
MERRY expressed concerns that traditional hearing education lacks awareness of "sound," leading the company to sponsor the Taiwan Reading Culture Foundation in establishing the first library in Taiwan focused on acoustics and hearing education at Xitun Elementary School in Taichung City. The library aims to root knowledge of hearing protection through the power of shared reading. Additionally, a teacher sharing session was held to help frontline educators understand the importance of hearing health.
Chairman Liao Lu-Li has advocated for the concept of "shared reading," where an entire class reads and discusses the same book, since the 921 earthquake. He called on businesses to join this initiative, leading to the establishment of the first love library in 2005. To date, there are over 365 libraries, with total borrowing surpassing 68.63 million. The "Hearing Happiness" micro-hearing impairment library prioritizes books related to sound, music, and hearing impairment education.
In recent years, MERRY has excelled in sustainability actions, winning the TCSA Taiwan Corporate Sustainability Gold Award and the SGS ESG Award in 2023. The company has also implemented sustainability principles in product development, with innovations such as a passive infant care system for remote care, award-winning sleep headphones, and a hearing protection app, all receiving external recognition. President Huang Chao-Feng noted that these innovative technologies stem from insights into social needs and responses, and the company will continue to leverage its influence to accelerate sustainable transformation.
Additionally, MERRY has hosted a highly acclaimed headphone DIY experience camp for many years. This year, it collaborated with the National Chengchi University Innovation and Creativity Research Center's LuLe platform to sponsor rural schools to visit the MERRY R&D building for the "Little Audio Engineer" experience camp, aiming to alleviate the disparity in educational resources between urban and rural areas in Taiwan. Participants not only toured the multi-million dollar anechoic chamber and took part in the headphone DIY course but also engaged in a series of "Seeing Sound" experiential activities. The company hopes to inspire more businesses to contribute to science education for children in rural areas.
